Somatic Processing

What is Somatic Processing?

Somatic processing is a therapeutic approach that focuses on the connection between the mind and body to help individuals process and heal from trauma, stress and emotional distress. It emphasizes the idea that the body stores experiences, particularly traumatic ones and that by paying attention to physical sensations and bodily awareness, people can release stored tension and emotions.

What Does Somatic Processing Help With?

Teaches tools for self-regulation, reducing chronic stress and anxiety.
Calms the nervous system, fostering a sense of safety and grounding.

  • Trauma and PTSD
Helps release unresolved trauma stored in the body.

Supports the integration of traumatic memories without overwhelm.

Addresses symptoms like hypervigilance, flashbacks and emotional numbness.

Builds emotional resilience and increases the capacity to handle stressors.

  • Chronic Pain and Tension

Alleviates physical symptoms tied to emotional stress or trauma, such as muscle tension, headaches or digestive issues.

Encourages awareness of how emotions manifest as physical pain.

  • Depression

Reconnects individuals with their bodies and emotions, which can counter feelings of disconnection and apathy.

Facilitates the release of suppressed emotions that may contribute to depressive states.

  • Self-Esteem and Confidence

Encourages embodiment, helping individuals feel more present and confident in their bodies.

    Cultivates self-awareness and self-acceptance.

  • Relational Issues

Improves the ability to identify and communicate emotions in relationships.

Supports healing attachment wounds by building a sense of safety within the body.

  • Addiction Recovery

Addresses the underlying emotional pain or trauma that may drive addictive behaviours.

Builds healthier coping mechanisms through body-based awareness.

  • Developmental and Childhood Trauma

Helps repair disruptions in early attachment and developmental processes.

Rebuilds a sense of safety and trust in oneself and others.

  • Burnout and Fatigue

Encourages rest and restoration by balancing the nervous system.

Helps individuals reconnect with their energy and vitality.

By working directly with the body and nervous system, somatic processing can bring about deep healing and lasting change, especially for challenges that traditional talk therapy might not fully address.
